Two-valued Boolean (Crisp) as well as their many-valued extensions (fuzzy relations) play increasingly important role in representation and computing with engineering and scientiic data and knowledge. Relations provide important tools in dealing with modal and belief logics used in AI. In intelligent systems and Knowledge Engineering , relational methods can be used eeectively for not only to represent an compute with knowledge, but also to elicit empirical knowledge. Relations also play an important role in building architectures of intelligent systems for information processing as well as control engineeering. The main advantage or relational computations is that they are inherently parallel. Particularly important are architectures for knowledge-based systems that can work with imprecise information expressed by interval fuzzy logics. Fuzzy relational methods are helpful in discovering meaningful structural relationships implicit in scientiic, engineering, business or medical data. In particular fuzzy relational products, and algorithms for computing of fuzzy closures and interiors , make it possible to discover and further analyze structural relationships between 1
